Bhopal: An MPhil student of Barkatullah University has alleged that she was forcibly confined to a doctor’s chamber and gangraped for over 24 hours by three persons, including a doctor of Bhopal Memorial Hospital and Research Centre —the super-speciality hospital for gas victims.
Late on Monday night, police arrested Dr Raghuraj Pandey and two others — Anand Mishra, a former employee of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, and an acquaintance, Pradeep More. The victim is from Betul district of Madhya Pradesh and stays in the university’s girls hostel.
Sub-divisional officer of police Ghanshyam Maviya said, “According to the victim, she was taken to the hospital by Pradeep More and confined in a doctor’s chamber. There she was forced to consume liquor with the three persons and then gangraped the whole night.”
Police said the MPhil student had left the hostel premises without informing the warden on Sunday afternoon to meet a black magician to sort out her troubled marriage. She met Pradeep, who took her to BMHRC to meet Dr Pandey.
They were joined by Anand Mishra, a black magician, who tricked the girl to drink liquor laced with drugs, police said. The three then allegedly gangraped her on Sunday night, the police added.
On Monday afternoon, she was forced to accompany one of the culprits to a movie hall to watch a film. It was from there that she sent an SMS to the hostel warden.
She was rescued by the police from Sangam Cinema soon after. The 23-year-old victim was sent for a medical check-up that confirmed rape, police said.
In the first week of December, a 19-year-old NRI student of Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology, a deemed university, was allegedly molested on campus by four students. The matter was reported to the police by the institute administration after a local daily published the news.
The victim, a student of electronics engineering, had completed her first semester. On the pretext of showing her the marks of a previous exam, three boys took her to an isolated room where a fourth student joined them.
The four forcibly put ‘sindoor’ on the girl’s forehead, put bangles into her wrists, tied a mangalsutra and then manhandled her.
The institute administration, however, could not identity the culprits.
The incident of the NRI girl’s molestation sent tremors across the state capital. Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan made a statement that the guilty will be punished. But, no action has been taken so far.
